KB2598354: An error occurred while running detection
When installing a hotfix for Microsoft Office 2010 (actually for SharePoint), I got this error:
An error occurred while running detection
It turns out that a while ago, I had removed the C:\Windows\Installer directory because it was taking so much room. That’s what caused this error. Fortunately, I had backed it up and the hotfix worked after I restored it.
