The resource is not on the build path of a java project
If you get the Eclipse error “The resource is not on the build path of a java project”, it may be because you’re editing a derived file rather than a source file. This sometimes happens if you grab a file from search results without checking its path. It may be the wrong copy of the file and the source version is in another folder (and elsewhere in the search results).
You can prevent derived files from showing up in search results by right-clicking folders of derived files, selecting properties, and marking it as derived.
