Can’t e-file NY taxes with H&R Block at Home
When you try to e-file your H&R Block At Home taxes for New York State, you get the following error:
We and the New York tax office are hard at work getting state e-filing ready for you. You’ll need a state update to e-file. Check for an update on or before [date]
where [date] is today or tomorrow. Every day H&R Block moves it back one day. There is apparently no customer support or vendor-supported forums. H&R Block gives no indication when it will be ready.
I wonder whether I made a mistake switching from TurboTax to save $10.
I called customer support and after a 15-minute wait I was told that it would be ready on the date in the notification message. Ha!
Update Feb 14:
H&R Block has updated the message to this:
H&R Block and the New York tax office are working hard to get state e-filing ready for you. You’ll need a state update to e-file, and we’ll post the update as soon as e-file is ready. Thank you for your patience. This message is current as [recent date/time]
That seems like an improvement. The estimated update ready time is now set to Feb 15.
Update Feb 15:
The New York Status update is ready. You can now e-file for New York.

I think the options are wait or buy TurboTax. 🙁
My feeling is that as more and more people finish their taxes, H&R Block will be getting more pressure to finish this. I would be surprised if their not done by the end of the month.

I called H&R Block and demanded my money back (and got it). This problem, and the lack of response from them, is absolutely unacceptable.
